Despite putting a loss to The College of New Jersey in the rearview mirror, the New York University women's tennis team will face another nationally-ranked team less than 24 hours later.
NYU (0-4) dropped a 9-0 match to TCNJ, the #17-ranked squad in the latest ITA Women's Divsion III National Poll. Up next for the Violets: a date with #30 Brandeis University on Saturday.
On Friday, NYU head coach
Horace Choy and his team did not get off to an ideal start, dropping its three doubles matches by 8-2 scores. But, the Violets were able to stay competitive with TCNJ in singles competition.
Senior co-captain
Lisa Mijovic pushed her #4 match to three sets before falling 6-1, 2-6, 6-2. Fellow senior
Liz Feldman lost 6-4, 6-0 at second singles.
In other action freshman
Ramya Pokala lost 6-2, 6-2 in the #5 singles slot while senior
Elizabeth Stachtiaris dropped the #1 singles match 6-2, 6-1.
The Violets will get the opportunity for their first win of the season - and a potential upset bid - when the team hosts Brandeis at 10:00 am at the Stadium Tennis Center at Mill Pond in the Bronx. NYU will then conclude the weekend slate with Sunday's Family Day event and home match against William Smith College at 11:00 am.
