The New York University women's fencing team will compete at the MIT Invitational on Sunday, February 6, in Cambridge, MA.
The Invitational field features six quality teams, all of which received votes in the most recent Women's USFCA Coaches Poll. The slate of teams set for action on Sunday includes Duke University, the University of North Carolina, Brown University, NYU, Brandeis University, and the host school, the Massuchesetts Institute of Technology.
NYU and MIT are the only two Division III universities competing.
Thus far in the 2010-11 season, NYU sports a record of 6-8. In the Violets' last competition, at the NYU Invitational on January 22, the women's team won two of six matches, knocking off Sacred Heart University, 22-5, and Vassar College, 14-13.
The team features fencers in each weapon who bring especially impressive records into Sunday's Invitational. Captain Amanda Rysling is 21-11 in foil, fellow captain Vicki Sheng is 21-20 in epee and Liza Verzino is 21-16 in sabre.
Following the MIT Invitational, NYU returns home on Feb. 9 against traditional foes Columbia University, Sacred Heart University and Vassar at the Coles Sports Center.
