The New York University men's tennis team dropped a 6-3 decision at Swarthmore College on Saturday, Feburary 19, falling to 0-2 in its 2010-11 campaign.
NYU fell into an early 3-0 hole after dropping all of its doubles matches.
"We got off to a flat start today and had some trouble recovering," said head coach
Horace Choy.
The Violets picked up all three victories in singles competition behind the strong play of sophmores
Connor Witty (#1) and
Daniel Penaranda (#4) as well as junior
Raphael Namias (#3).
Witty picked up a 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 victory in his match, while Namias posted a 6-3, 7-5 win. Penaranda dropped his first set before prevailing 3-6, 6-3, 6-4.
Freshman
Steven Wu challenged Zak Kelm of Swarthmore in a 2-6, 7-5, 6-2 defeat in #2 singles action.
The Violets return to the court on March 4 when they face Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge, MA. The match is scheduled for an 8:00 pm start.
