Violets Drop 1-0 Contest

Box Score

The New York University men's soccer team's four-game winning streak was snapped in non-conference action on Wednesday, October 5, as Kean University defeated the visiting Violets 1-0 in Hillside, NJ.

Erickson Simeon scored the game-winning goal for the Cougars (7-3-2) in the 66th minute. After a miskick, NYU (5-4-1) goalkeeper Jonah Poster was forced to come off his line, and Simeon fended off his defender to net the go-ahead goal.

Though the game ended with the shots even at 12-12 and the Violets holding a 5-0 edge in corners, NYU could not find the back of the net.

“We had a couple of chances, we just didn't finish them,” said Violet head coach Joe Behan. “In the end, this is a kick in the pants for us, but we have to learn from it and get ready for Saturday.”

The best of NYU's chances came in the 31st minute, but Ian Cassell's shot was turned away by the Kean defense and Ryan Horch's rebound attempt was blocked.

Kyle Green also had several opportunities for the Violets, firing five shots at goal.

Poster finished with four saves in goal for NYU, while Brian Haines recorded three stops for the Cougars to earn the shutout.

The Violets return to action on Saturday, October, 8 when they travel to the University of Rochester for their second University Athletic Association (UAA) contest. Game time is scheduled for 5:00 pm.
