Women's Tennis Falls to TCNJ

Regionally-Ranked Squad Drop Violets 8-1

Lee notched a victory at #3 singles on Tuesday.

On Tuesday, April 6, the New York University women's tennis team took an 8-1 setback from regional rival and host The College of New Jersey.

TCNJ (12-2), ranked #7 in the ITA Tennis Division III Northeast Poll and #23 nationally, dropped the Violets to 3-5 on the season.

"TCNJ is strong every year and we know we always have to come ready to play," said NYU head coach Horace Choy. "They are a nationally-ranked team that I wouldn't be surprised to see up much higher by the end of the season. With the level and amount of talent they have, they deserve it."

Violet freshman Flora Lee provided her squad's only victory, a 6-4, 7-6 (7-3) triumph over Lauren Balsamo at #3 singles.

"Flora played a good match under tough conditions," added Choy. "This was our first match of the year in hot weather and the heat certainly was a factor."

Junior Lena Krups jumped out to a strong start in #4 singles play, before losing in three sets.

The Violets return to action on April 10, when the University of Rochester hosts the team at 10:00 am.
