TCNJ Drops Men's Tennis Squad

Violets Turn Attention to UAA's

Sacher provided the Violets with a victory at #1 singles on Saturday.

On Saturday, April 17, the New York University men's tennis team fell to The College of New Jersey 8-1 in Ewing, NJ, in the second-to-last match of its regular season.

The Violets (3-8) have lost three out of four heading into the season finale against Baruch College on Tuesday, April 20, and then the University Athletic Association (UAA) Championship on Friday, April 23. However, their latest loss came to a TCNJ squad that is now 9-4 and ranked #9 in the latest ITA Tennis Division III Northeast Regional Poll.

TCNJ distanced itself from NYU early on Saturday by taking all three doubles matches. The junior tandem of Matt Gross and Alex Stoler were in contention at #1 doubles before falling 8-5.

Fellow junior Jason Sacher provided the only victory for the Violets. He cruised to a 6-3, 6-0 win in #1 singles play.

Facing some of the most talented teams in the nation all season long has helped the Violets, but NYU hopes to return to winning ways at Baruch on Tuesday. The Violets have competed against two current nationally-ranked teams this season in Middlebury College (1) and Vassar College (24), in addition to facing numerous regionally-ranked squads.

The match against Baruch will start at 3:30pm at the National Tennis Center in Flushing, NY. Seeding for UAA's will be announced in the coming days.
