Violets to Partake in Consolation Match Tomorrow

Wimes nearly pulled off a victory at #1 singles against nationally-ranked Emory.

On Friday, April 16, the New York University women's tennis team lost 5-0 to Emory University in the first round of the University Athletic Association (UAA) Championships in Celveland, OH.

NYU head coach Horace Choy and his Violets faced an uphill battle against top-seeded Emory, the #4 team in the April 14 ITA Tennis Division III National Poll.

Freshman Alexa Wimes pushed her opponent before losing 6-4, 6-4 at #1 singles. At #1 doubles, she teamed with fellow freshman Flora Lee and fell 8-1.

Sophomore Elizabeth Stachtiaris dropped a 6-1, 6-0 decision at #2 singles. Stachtiaris and freshman Ariel Sultan went down 8-1 at #2 doubles.

In #3 doubles play, freshmen Tiffany Thong and Becky Kumar were defeated by a score of 8-0.

NYU will now participate in the consolation bracket of the UAA Championships. The Violets will play the loser of today's #4 Washington University vs. #5 University of Rochester match. That match will be held on Saturday at 8:30 am.
