On Wednesday, April 14, the New York University men's tennis team fell to Stevens Institute of Technology 8-1 in Hoboken, NJ.
The Violets (3-7) were in contention early on as junior Matt Gross and junior Alex Stoler were pushing for a win at #1 doubles. Despite the gritty effort, they lost 9-7.
A similar fate befell NYU at #3 doubles, with senior captain Eugene Tsarevskiy and junior Philip Rosenstein dropping their match 8-6.
"Those doubles matches really set the tone," said NYU head coach Horace Choy. "If we took one or two of those close matches, we could have had some momentum going into singles play."
Tsarevskiy picked up the only singles victory for the Violets, prevailing 1-6, 7-5, 10-7 at #4 singles.
Senior #P.J. Marranca# pushed Piotr Rusinkiewicz of Stevens to three sets, before losing 6-2, 6-7, 9-7 (10-4).
"We had some opportunities here and there, but we knew this would be a tough match," added Choy.
NYU returns to action on Saturday, April 17, when the team travels to Ewing, NJ, to face The College of New Jersey.
