Men's Tennis Tops Drew

Squad Picks Up First Win of Season

Matt Gross notched victories in singles and doubles matches against Drew.

On Thursday, March 25, the New York University men's tennis team picked up its first win of the season, grinding out a 5-4 victory at Drew University in Madison, NJ.

The Violets are now 1-5 this season.

"It's great going into our Family Day match (Sunday) with a victory," said NYU head coach Horace Choy. "Getting our first win is ike getting a Gorilla off our backs."

Junior Alex Zara, senior captain Eugene Tsarevskiy, senior #P.J. Marranca#, and junior Matt Gross all posted victories in singles matches, giving NYU an overall 4-2 advantage.

Junior Alex Stoler teamed with Gross to take a 9-8 (7-0) victory at #1 doubles.

"That doubles victory was huge," said Choy. "We lost the other two doubles matches, so that was a turning point for us. There's a big difference in being down 3-0 versus only 2-1."

The Violets look to continue their winning ways on Sunday, March 28, when the team hosts Wilkes University at the National Tennis Center in Flushing, NY. Sunday is also Family Day for both the men's and the women's tennis squads.
