Night of Firsts Highlights Hunter Win

Javadi Scores First Goal, While Stieve Posts First Shutout

Cameron Javadi's first collegiate goal gave NYU its fourth victory.

Box Score

Cameron Javadi's first collegiate goal came courtesy of a lucky bounce as his restart from 45 yards out hopped off the turf and over the goal line with 14:17 remaining to give New York University a 1-0 victory over Hunter College in non-conference men's soccer action on the rain-slicked turf of Gaelic Park in Riverdale, NY.

Although the Violets (4-5) dominated both in possession and dangerous chances (18-5), they saw their best opportunities turned aside, including a header by Christopher Wolf cleared away from the goal mouth by a Hunter (1-7-1) defender at 41:18 and a searing line drive from Kyle Green that caromed off the crossbar at 59:00.

It took a Hunter foul to set up the game's lone score as Javadi lined up and launched a left-footed boot that took an auspicious bounce inside the 18 and found its way into the twine, giving the Violets some momentum going into their University Athletic Association opener Saturday at the University of Rochester, a side ranked #13 in the D3Soccer.com Top 25 and #20 in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America/adidas Division III National Rankings.

Matt Stieve also celebrated a first for NYU, earning his first collegiate shutout while making four saves to improve to 1-1 this season. Alexandre Ilic stopped six shots for the Hawks.

NYU, which owned a 5-1 edge in corner kicks, plays Saturday at 5:00 p.m. at Rochester.
