Men's Soccer Stopped by USMMA

Two scores spaced 69 seconds apart led the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy to a 2-0 victory over New York university in non-conference men's soccer action at New Jersey Institute of Technology's Lubetkin Field in Newark, NJ, on Wednesday nigh.

The Mariners (7-1) won their seventh-straight game, but did not get a shot on frame until Clint Foster scored from 10 yards out after taking a pass from Rusty Denson at 32:36. At 33:45, Kyle Kempinski headed home a Foster cross to cap USMMA's flurry.

Kyle Green led NYU (3-5) with two shots on goal as the Violets were outshot, 12-6. Both teams took four corner kicks.

Gary Poulin made three saves to preserve the shutout for the Mariners. Marek Urbanski dropped to 3-4 after making one stop for the Violets.

NYU returns to action Monday, Sept. 28, when it hosts intracity rival Hunter College. Game time is 7 p.m. at Manhattan College's Gaelic Park in Riverdale, NY.
