Two Richard Stockton College goals spaced 5:27 apart resigned New York University to a 3-0 loss to its South Atlantic Region opponent Wednesday night at G. Larry James Stadium in Pomona, NJ.
The Violets' (2-4) best offensive chance came in the 20th minute, when a header by Kyle Green that could have forged a 1-1 tie got cleared away. An ensuing Violet corner kick by Sean Dunleavy led to a shot by Green, the team's leading scorer with six points, that sailed high.
Richard Stockton (5-1), #5 in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA)/adidas Division III South Atlantic Regional Rankings, seized a 1-0 lead 8:10 into the action when Sean Nelson found the back of the net thanks to the first of two helpers from Sean McCallum.
Things stayed quiet until 42:29, when Sal Pistone pushed a shot across the goal line off a feed from George Hamilton. Shortly after the Ospreys emerged from intermission with a 2-0 lead, Pat Tolomeo extended the lead to 3-0 after McCallum's second assist.
Marek Urbanski made three saves for NYU, which was outshot, 8-3, but owned a 3-2 edge on corner kicks. Anthony Pompei recorded one save for Richard Stockton.
NYU will look to rebound Saturday, Sept. 19, when it hosts intracity rival Baruch College at 7 p.m. at Manhattan College's Gaelic Park. Last year, the Violets and Bearcats played to a 1-1 draw at the Metropolitan Oval in Maspeth, NY.
