Bevaart's Tallies Bury Manhattanville

Sophomore Scores First Goals of 2009 in 2-0 Victory

Badr Bevaart provided all of the offense Saturday night.

Box Score

Badr Bevaart scored his first two goals of 2009, providing all the offense New York University needed in a 2-0 victory over the host school at the 17th Manhattanville College Valiant Classic on Saturday night in Purchase, NY.

An Honorable Mention All-University Athletic Association performer as a rookie, Bevaart found the back of the net for the first time in 2009 at 27:36, burying a blast from 15 yards out after a Manhattanville (2-2) turnover at 27:36. To put the game out of reach, the standout sophomore converted a feed from Kyle Green on a 2-on-1 with Valiants' goalkeeper Jason Torres (5 saves) with 38 seconds remaining in regulation.

Thus far, Green (6 points) and Bevaart (4) are the top-two scorers for the Violets (2-3), who snapped a two-game losing streak.

Other than Bevaart's offensive efforts, it was mostly a 90-minute defensive struggle that saw both sides combine for just 12 shots (NYU 7, Manhattanville 5).

Another 2009 Honorable Mention All-UAA honoree, Marek Urbanski, thwarted the Valiants' best advances, making three saves to record his second clean sheet of the season. NYU has not allowed a goal in either of its victories.

The Violets return to action Wednesday, Sept. 16, when they travel to face Richard Stockton College. Start time is 7 p.m. in Pomona, NJ.
