In its first match since March 28, the New York University men's tennis team notched its fourth-straight victory with a 7-2 win over the Stevens Institute of Technology Ducks on Wednesday.
After a slow start in the doubles competition, the Violets (6-6) rebounded and swept all of the singles matches in straight sets. Freshman
Patrick Whitner and sophomore
Alex Stoler claimed the lone doubles point for NYU by defeating their opponents 8-5 in the #2 match. The pair also secured victories in their respective singles matches.
“It's been hard with the weather lately,” explained head coach
Horace Choy, “but the guys rebounded and played well.”
Seniors
Craig Berger and
Calvin Chou won at #2 and #3 singles. Berger improved his singles record to 10-6 and Chou evened his at 8-8.
Stoler and Chou added their names to another impressive list as the University Athletic Association announced the Spring Sport All-Academic honorees on April 8.
P.J. Marranca also received the same accolade.
NYU travels to Rochester, NY, on Friday to compete in the University Athletic Association (UAA) Championships. As the #6 seed, the Violets draw the #3-seeded Carnegie Mellon University Tartans in their opening match on Friday afternoon.
