Men's Tennis Drops Dual to TCNJ

Calvin Chou secured two victories for the Violets.

The New York University men's tennis team lost a close match to #17 The College of New Jersey by a score of 5-4 on Saturday in Latham, NY.

The Violets' #2 doubles team of seniors Craig Berger and Calvin Chou notched the first victory with a win over Jonathan Yu and Steven Fernandez. Chou continued winning when he defeated Yu in the #3 singles match (6-0, 6-3) after Berger defeated Stewart Fernandez in the preceding match in three sets (6-2, 4-6, 6-2).

Sophomore Jason Sacher pulled the Violets ahead with a 4-6, 6-3, 6-3 victory over Steven Fernandez in the #4 singles match, but in the decisive #6 match, sophomore Alex Stoler was unable to hold off Dan Lee, who claimed the final point for the Lions with a 6-7 (6), 6-3, 6-0 triumph.

"It was a tough loss," admitted head coach Horace Choy, "but we have another match tomorrow so we will regroup and be ready for that match."

NYU falls to 0-3 on the season, while TCNJ picks up its first win in its first competition of the spring season.

Looking to claim their first win of 2009, the Violets return to action Sunday against Union College at 12:00 pm once again in Latham, NY.
