Playing his final collegiate game, Brandon Hintz found the back of the net twice, including what proved to be the game-winning goal with 14:15 left in regulation, as New York University outlasted University Athletic Association (UAA) rival Brandeis University, 3-2, Saturday afternoon in Waltham, MA.
NYU (7-8-2, 2-3-2 UAA) capped its season with two consecutive victories, sending its senior class of Hintz, Marek Urbanski and Christopher Wolf off with a winning memory. The Violets now own three straight wins over the Judges (6-10-2, 1-5-1 UAA).
Hintz got the Violets going early, scoring on a blast from 20 yards out into the upper left corner to make it 1-0. NYU maintained its lead going into intermission, then peppered the Brandeis defense with four quick shots early in the second half.
However, the Judges countered at 51:43 when Sam Ocel tapped his own rebound into an open net to know things at 1-all.
Adam Fein then set up the Violets' final two tallies. First, he went endline and put the ball on Kyle Green's foot, and the freshman tapped it home for his fifth goal at 66:58. Then, Fein sent in a cross that Hintz finished for his team-leading sixth score at 75:45.
Brandeis made the Violets sweat out their lead in the final minutes, pulling within 3-2 when Corey Bradley converted a feed from Jaime Batista at 87:15.
NYU owned a 16-10 edge on shots and a 5-3 advantage on corner kicks. Urbanski made three saves in the win for NYU.
