Women's Fencers Set to Host Fairleigh Dickinson

Alumni Meet to Follow After Match

Lisa Verzino finished 12th overall in sabre at the Temple Open.

The New York University women's fencing team will take on Fairleigh Dickinson University on Thursday, Nov. 12, for its first home match of the season at Palladium Athletic Facility.

The first match against Fairleigh Dickinson's “A” team will begin at 5:00 p.m., and the second match against Fairleigh Dickinson's “B” squad will take place directly after at 6:00 p.m.

For the season, several Violet fencers have hit the mark through one invitational. Junior Amanda Rysling competed in the final round of eight at the Temple Collegiate Open in Philadelphia on Oct. 31, and finished in seventh place overall in foil. Her top-eight performance came in a field of 92 competitors.

Also in foil, junior Sophie Ciaravino finished strong by placing eighth overall. In sabre, sophomore Lisa Verzino advanced into the round of 16 and finished 12th overall. Junior Victoria Sheng finished well in epee as she was NYU's top performer, placing 12th overall.

For Fairleigh Dickinson, freshman Ginny Siskidis made it into the top 32 at the Temple Open in foil, finishing 27th. Freshman Christina Forsythe competed in epee, placing 11th. Freshman Sophia Bischof was a finalist in sabre, ending up in fifth place on her first day out for the Knights.

The match is also serving as this season's Alumni Meet, which is set to take place following the conclusion of the meet at 7:00 p.m.
