Marek Urbanski stopped two penalty kicks in a 59-second span Sunday.
Box Score

Despite a strong performance between the pipes by junior Marek Urbanski, New York University dropped a 1-0 decision to Muhlenberg College in non-conference men's soccer action Sunday at the College of Staten Island.

Urbanski put aside eight shots, including two penalty-kick stops within 59 seconds, to keep the Violets (0-2) competitive.

However, the Violets were unlucky on their two best chances in the second half: freshman Matt Newman hit the right post with a bending shot from the 18 at 60:08, then a header by senior Branden Neal hit the crossbar at 83:19.

Muhlenberg (2-1-0), ranked seventh in last week's National Soccer Coaches Association of America/adidas Mid-Atlantic Region poll, took a 1-0 lead at 43:02 when Mike Williams drilled a shot into the top left corner of the goal off a feed from Steven Tenenzapf off a corner kick.

Joseph Gogel stopped three shots for Muhlenberg, which claimed a 15-14 edge in shots.  However, NYU owned a 6-1 advantage on corner kicks.

NYU returns to action Wednesday, Sept. 10, when it travels to the Metropolitan Oval to face intracity rival Baruch College at 8 p.m.
