Sophomore Leonardo Da Silva tallied his first career goal and the New York University men's soccer team extended its undefeated streak to seven games with a 1-0 victory over the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy on Saturday afternoon in Kings Point, NY.

In its final non-conference contest before beginning University Athletic Association (UAA) play, the Violets (4-2-3) improved to 4-0-3 in their last seven contests, recording their fifth shutout of the season as junior Marek Urbanski made five saves to preserve his fourth clean sheet of the season.

"I think we built off our performance in the first half of our game against Stevens Tech (a 1-1 tie on Sept. 24)," senior co-captain Branden Neal said.  "We could have put a few more home, but I feel we're ready for Case Western.  I think we're definitely headed in the right direction."

DaSilva produced the only offense by banging home a cross from sophomore Michael Burke at 21:19.  NYU got outshot 14-12 in the contest, and the Mariners held a 4-3 edge on corner kicks.

Preston Stokes put aside two shots for USMMA (6-4-0).

NYU will now have a week off before traveling to Cleveland to face UAA rival Case Western Reserve University on Saturday, Oct. 4, at 7:30 p.m.  In each of the last two seasons, the Violets have recorded 1-0 victories over the Spartans.
