Women's Tennis Falls at Vassar

Stephanie Tu won her singles match against Vassar's Joy Backer.
The New York University women's tennis team suffered an 8-1 loss to Vassar College on Saturday in Poughkeepsie, NY. 

Senior Stephanie Tu earned NYU's only match victory with a 6-2, 6-4 win over Joy Backer in second singles.

In first singles, freshman Elizabeth Stachtiaris competed against Nicole Pontee and lost 6-1, 6-2. Senior Amanda Freedman lost her third singles match to Jennifer Beckerman 6-1, 6-1, while sophomore Lisa Mijovic fell 6-2, 6-1 in fourth singles to Elizabeth Anderson. Freshman Korina Kushnir was defeated 7-5, 6-0 by Alex Jacobson in the fifth singles match, and sophomore Lena-Sophie Krups  lost her sixth singles match to Krista Romita.

Stachtiaris was once again teamed up with Kushnir in first doubles, but the pair lost to Nicole Pontee and Jamie Steele 8-1. In second doubles, Freedman and Mijovic played against Backer and Romita, losing 8-1. Tu and Krups were defeated 8-3 in third doubles by Beckerman and Jacobson.

The Violets (1-1) return to action next Saturday, Oct. 11, when they take on Tufts University in Medford, MA beginning at 2:00 pm.
