Erik Brandl, who is in his second season as an assistant coach of the New York University women’s swimming and diving team, has brought elite-level training experience to the program. He assists head coach Lauren Beam in a variety of areas, working with the swimmers both in the pool and during dry-land training.

During Brandl’s initial campaign, NYU finished with an 8-1 dual-meet record to go along with a third-place finish at the University Athletic Association (UAA) Championships and a 40th-place finish at the NCAA Championships.

Prior to coming to Washington Square, Brandl served as the Head Senior Coach with the SONOCO Swim Club from 2005-08. In that capacity, he coordinated the development of senior level swimmers and coached at prestigious events like the National Championships, Junior Nationals and the U.S. Open. Brandl proved instrumental to the success of the program on dry land, as well, by conducting in-depth information sessions for swimmers and their families.

From 2003-05, Brandl attended the University of Nevada-Las Vegas, taking coursework in sport and leisure service management. While at UNLV, he worked as a Graduate Assistant for Leisure Facilities and later served as a Teaching Assistant for the Sport & Leisure Services Department.

A 2002 graduate of Saint Michael’s College in Colchester, VT, with a Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology, Brandl is a native of Wallingford, CT, and currently resides in Manhattan.
