Julia Drattell rejoined the New York University Athletic Training staff in a part-time capacity in September 2025. She originally served as a full-time athletic trainer at NYU from 2010-16, working primarily with wrestling and women’s soccer before moving on to support research, clinical, and education initiatives for NYU Langone’s Health Concussion Center and Sports Health until 2022.

Drattell has been a certified athletic trainer since 2009. She earned her undergraduate degree in Athletic Training at the University from Delaware in 2009 and a master’s in Athletic Training from the University of Virginia in 2010. Drattell went on to receive a PhD from the University of Georgia in 2025, writing her dissertation on athlete concussion education and care-seeking.

Additionally, Drattell founded PEPI Research, LLC to continue providing support services for health education and health promotion activities. She served on the State of New York’s professional board for athletic trainers from 2018-21 and represented the State of New York on the National Athletic Trainers’ Association’s District II Young Professional’s Committee from 2017-19. 

Drattell currently serves on committees for the Brain Injury Association of New York State and the American Congress of Rehabilitation Medicine.

A New Jersey native, Drattell resides in Brooklyn with her husband, Scott, and their cat, Katniss.
