Chudi Ikpeazu was hired as a New York University men’s and women’s assistant track & field coach prior to the 2023-24 indoor season. He works with the teams’ throwers.
During the 2024-25 track & field season, a record nine individuals qualified for the NCAA Division III Outdoor Championships, with three (Ryan Tobin – 5k, Janie Cooper – 5k, and Stella Kuttner – 1500m) earning United State Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-America honors. Indoors, Tobin won the University Athletic Association (UAA) 3k and achieved All-America honors in both the 3k and 5k, while Katherine Cochrane was also a 5k All-American.
Under Ikpeazu’s guidance, Daniel Lee recorded career bests in the discus, weight throw and shot put. On the women’s side, Michelle Uvieghara set a personal best and placed fifth in the discus at the UAA Outdoor Championships.
Many Violets performed during Ikpeazu’s first season in ’23-24. Grace Richardson was named the Niagara Region Women’s Track Athlete of the Year, won the UAA 3k title and was a First Team All-American in both the 3k and 5k at Indoor Nationals and in both the 5k and 10k at Outdoor Nationals. Additionally, Cochran (5k & 3k) and Cooper (3k) were both Second Team All-Americans at Indoor Nationals for the women.
A 2021 graduate of the University of Pennsylvania with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Philosophy and a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics, Ikpeazu also earned a Master of Arts degree in Philosophy from Stanford University in 2023 and is currently a J.D. candidate at the New York University Law School, expected to graduate in 2026.
A four-year member of the Penn track & field team, Ikpeazu threw shot put and discus for the Quakers, earning a #2 spot on Penn’s all-time discus record list. He was also a two-time Academic All-American.
Ikpeazu’s coaching experience includes serving at Stanford’s Summer Camp as an Independent Throws Coach.
