Sam Albert joined the New York University men's & women's track & field program as an assistant coach prior to the 2008-09 season. His primary responsibilities include working with the team’s sprinters and hurdlers. 

During the 2008-09 men’s season, Albert worked on a staff that produced six NCAA Championship qualifiers and one All-American (senior Jesse Schneider). On the women’s side, freshman Joan Kanarkiewicz qualified in two events for the NCAA Outdoor Championships. One of Albert’s sprinters, junior Caitlin Gibson, earned All-University Athletic Association (UAA) honors with her third-place finish in the indoor 400 meters

In addition, a total of nine NYU records (seven women’s, two men’s) were broken last season.

Albert began his coaching career as an assistant for the men's & women's track & field teams at the University of Rochester from 2001-04, where he was mainly responsible for the sprints & relays. He coached three NCAA Division III All-Americans, four New York State Collegiate Track Conference (NYSCTC) champions and two individual ECAC champions, while his athletes set 20 new school records.

A 2001 University of Rochester graduate with a Bachelor's of Arts degree in biology, Albert was a four-time University Athletic Association (UAA) champion in the 4x400-meter relay. He was a member of the Yellowjackets’ team that established the UAA record in the outdoor 4x400 meter relay, won two NYSCTC championships, established three school records (indoor 500 meters, indoor 4x400 relay, outdoor 4x400 relay), and served as team captain for two years.

Off the track, Albert earned UAA All-Academic honors three times and received the John Vitone Award, given to the senior who best exemplifies sportsmanship and leadership in intercollegiate athletics. He also worked for the Department of Athletics and Recreation in numerous capacities as an undergraduate at Rochester.

Albert moved on to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill from 2004-06, where he served as an athletic operations and facilities assistant. He performed game management duties and supervised event staff at Tar Heels home athletic contests. In addition, he was actively involved in the planning and hosting of several NCAA and Atlantic Coast Conference tournaments, including the 2005 ACC Indoor Track & Field Championships.

Albert, who also works as the Violet Booster Club Coordinator, managing the alumni relations and fundraising programs for the Department of Athletics, Intramurals & Recreation, earned a Master of Science degree in education from Rochester in 2002 and a Master of Arts degree in sport administration from North Carolina in 2006.

A native of North Tonawanda, NY, Albert and resides in Brooklyn, NY, with his wife Mackenzie.
