Jefferson Baum is in his second season as an assistant coach for the New York University men’s soccer team. In addition to his overall day-to-day coaching duties, Baum is mainly responsible for working with the Violets’ goalkeepers.
Last season, the Violets finished 11-7-1 overall and advanced to the semifinals of the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III Metro Championship. Three players earned Second Team All-UAA (University Athletic Association) honors: senior Mickey Ingerman, freshman Malcolm Montilus and sophomore Peter Aasa, while two other players, sophomore goalkeeper Lucas Doucette and freshman Nicolas Notaro, were chosen Honorable Mention. Montilus was also named ECAC Metro Co-Rookie of the Year.
Baum, who holds coaching licenses from the United States Soccer Federation (USSF) and the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA), is the founder and director of Diablos F.C., an inner-city soccer program with a college-preparatory focus.
From 2008-14, Baum coached numerous teams at Diablos F.C., ranging from U11 to U19. His squads captured several championships at various levels and were consistently ranked among the best in Missouri.
A 2008 graduate of Columbia University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and dual minors in history and creative writing, Baum also currently serves as the Managing Director of Recruitment at Teach for America.
During his time at Columbia, Baum was a four-year varsity fencing team member. He also competed for the United States Fencing Team, earning a Pan-American Silver Medal in 2004 and finishing ninth in the Gödöllo, Hungary World Cup during 2003.
A native of Kansas City, MO, Baum resides in Manhattan.
