Prior to his tenure at the collegiate level, Winters was a full-time member of the coaching staff at Professional Baseball Instruction (PBI) in Mahwah, NJ. Among the numerous baseball professionals associated with PBI are current Pittsburgh Pirates manager Clint Hurdle, long-time MLB coach Sam Perlozzo, and Leo Mazzone, former Atlanta Braves pitching coach heralded for his development of multiple Hall of Famers.
Winters has also spent time coaching at the high school level. From 2011-13, he served as the varsity pitching coach at his alma mater River Dell H.S. in Oradell, NJ. In 2015, Winters was the freshman baseball coach at Mahwah H.S.
As a player, Winters was a mainstay in the rotation at Rutgers University-Newark before transferring to the University of Redlands, where he ranks among the all-time leaders in single-season saves. After his collegiate career, Winters signed with the White Sands Pupfish of the Pecos League and pitched as the team’s closer. He was later traded to the Alpine Cowboys to help solidify their bullpen. The following season he signed with the Santa Fe Fuego, also of the Pecos League, and was used as both a starter and a middle-reliever.
A 2010 Redlands graduate with a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science and history, Winters went on to complete a Masters of Business Administration at Centenary in 2018.
Also a physical education teacher at HudsonWay Immersion School in Manhattan, Winters is a native of Oradell, NJ, and resides in Astoria, NY.
