NYU Athletic Facilities Reopening Information
UPDATES
- 8/30/2021 - Palladium and Brooklyn Athletic Facility are now open. However, per a New York City Executive Order and New York University policy, the NYU Vax Pass and Student ID are required for access to all athletic facilities. The green Daily Screener does not grant facility access. See the below link for more information on the NYU Vax Pass.
- 8/14/2021 - Brooklyn Athletic Facility and Palladium Athletic Facility will be closed Saturday, August 14 to Thursday, August 26, 2021 for maintenance projects. Facilities will re-open Friday, August 27, 2021.
- 7/1/2021 - Starting Tuesday, July 6th, reservations are no longer required for open workouts in NYU Athletic Facilities. Palladium Athletic Facility will remain under the same operating hours as in June (Monday to Friday from 1:00pm to 8:00pm). Brooklyn Athletic Facility will be open Monday to Friday from 4:00pm to 8:00pm. In observance of Independence Day, athletic facilities will be closed on Monday, July 5th.
- 6/11/2021 - On Monday, June 14, 2021 the Brooklyn Athletic Facility and the Palladium Athletic Facility will open for students only during summer hours by reservation only.
- 11/24/2020 - Out of an abundance of caution for safety and wellness, NYU Athletic Facilities will be closed indefinitely. While we have not seen spread linked to our athletic facilities, we determined it was a prudent step to take.
- 10/30/2020 - The athletic facilities will open to NYU degree granting students with an active NYU ID by reservation. NYU will continue to review access for all other membership groups for upcoming semesters.
Our top priority is the health and safety of our campus community.
To minimize the potential exposure and spread of COVID-19, NYU Athletics has taken the following steps: verification of the NYU Vax Pass prior to facility entry, the continued use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and physical barriers, established physical distancing measures, improved air handling systems, and appropriate cleaning and disinfecting procedures. At this time, patrons and staff are required to wear a mask while in the facilities in compliance with NYU guidelines. Acceptable face coverings include, but are not limited to, cloth-based face coverings and disposable masks appropriate for exercise that cover both the mouth and nose. Bandanas, buffs, and gaiters are not acceptable face coverings for use in gyms and fitness centers informed by the NYS Guidelines for Reopening Gyms and Fitness Centers.
What are the current protocols at the Athletic Facilities?
What to Know Before You Come In
Members will check in at the Welcome Desk and show the NYU Athletics staff their purple NYU Vax Pass and self-scan their ID to gain access. An employee will verify identity from the computer screen behind the plexiglass barrier. If there is a line, we ask that patrons follow the appropriate signage and maintain a safe distance from others.

Please review our NYU Athletic Facilities Patron Responsibility Guidelines:
NYU Athletics strives to provide a safe and enjoyable experience for all. During these unprecedented times, we must all do our part to help maintain a safe space to workout, by taking specific precautions that are meant to help reduce the possibility of contracting and spreading COVID-19. The following guidelines and policies have been put in place to keep the NYU community safe while using athletic facilities:
-
If you are not feeling well, please stay home and do not enter the facility.
-
Complete the NYU Vax Pass via the NYU Mobile app before entering the facility.
-
Please wear a face covering at all times.
-
Please be sure to practice physical distancing whenever possible.
-
Take proactive measures to disinfect equipment and surfaces prior to and after each use. Increased number of gym wipes are available throughout the facilities.
-
Please remember to wash your hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds when you enter the facility and once when you leave.
-
Please consider alternative workout options that are outside, as the risk of COVID-19 transmission is lower when outdoors. Safety precautions such as staying home when sick, physical distancing, wearing a mask, washing your hands, and avoiding large crowds are the best ways to minimize the spread of COVID-19, even while exercising outside.
-
In order to ensure the health and safety of employees and patrons we must all do our part. Failure to follow policies and guidelines can lead to revoked membership.
How do we Keep Each Other Safe?
Hygiene, Cleaning, and Sanitation
Athletics staff and contracted cleaning services will continue to clean equipment and high touch point surfaces routinely throughout the day. Members are also asked to assist by cleaning equipment before and after use. Please use a new wipe each time and dispose of the wipe appropriately after use.
-
Additional cleaning stations have been placed throughout our facilities, which include a COVID-19 EPA approved disinfectant spray and single-use germicidal gym wipes
-
Hand sanitizer and wipes have been placed near high touch surfaces, such as near fitness equipment and outside of locker rooms, stairwells, and elevators. We strongly encourage their use, especially before and after touching handrails, door handles, and lockers.
NYU Athletic Facilities HVAC systems meet MERV-13 industry standards. NYU FCM has inspected and confirmed all HVAC equipment is equipped with MERV-13 filters. Refer to the NYU Reopening and Operating Plan for COVID-19 for additional information on University air handling systems.
NYU Vax Pass
Per a New York City Executive Order and New York University policy, the NYU Vax Pass and Student ID are required for access to all athletic facilities. The green Daily Screener does not grant facility access. See the below link for more information on the NYU Vax Pass.

PPE & Face Covering Protocol
According to the CDC, certain PPE can be used to help protect individuals from contracting and spreading COVID-19. Face coverings may help prevent people who have COVID-19 from spreading the virus to others--they also most likely reduce the spread of the virus when they are widely used by people in public settings. All staff members are required to wear a face mask at all times while in the facilities and disposable gloves whenever cleaning or sanitizing.
All patrons are required to wear a face covering that covers their nose and mouth at all times while using the facilities. Acceptable face coverings include, but are not limited to, cloth-based face coverings and disposable masks appropriate for exercise that cover both the mouth and nose. Bandanas, buffs, and gaiters are not acceptable face coverings for use in gyms and fitness centers guided by the NYS Guidelines for Reopening Gyms and Fitness Centers.
Hand Sanitation
Please wash and clean your hands upon entering and prior to exiting the facility either with soap and water or with alcohol-based sanitizer.
Physical Distancing
The CDC states that limiting face-to-face contact with others is the best way to reduce the spread of COVID-19. Physical distancing is defined as keeping space (at least six feet) between yourself and other people outside your home.
Stay Informed
A reminder that NYU Athletics has the right to refuse service to anyone exhibiting symptoms or not following facility guidelines. We are in this together to keep each other safe to reduce the spread and promote a safe, comfortable, and healthy recreational environment for all.
