The New York University women's basketball team continued its winning streak, now at 79, as the Violets defeated Case Western Reserve University 93-65 on Friday, January 30, at the John A. Paulson Center in Manhattan.
The two-time defending NCAA Division III Champion Violets (17-0, 6-0) are now just two short of the all-time record held by another University Athletic Association (UAA) team, Wshington University in St. Louis.
Friday's game was tight throughout much of the first half before
top-ranked NYU sprinted to a 43-33 halftime lead. .
NYU erased all doubt in the third quarter, going up by as many as 24 points and taking a 73-53 lead into the fourth.
The Spartans (8-9, 1-5) got as close as 17 points in the final quarter, but the Violets bumped the margin to a game-high 30, 88-58, on
Megan Ohonde's free throw with 3:28 remaining.
Brooke Batchelor finished with a career-high 22 points, making 10-of-14 shots from the field.
Zahra Alexander (15),
Aila Kaibara (14) and
Caroline Peper (12) also scored in double-digits for the Violets.
Yasmene Clark contributed a game-high 14 rebounds and a career-high seven assists.
The Violets look to pull within one win of the all-time record when they host Carnegie Mellon University this Sunday back at the Paulson Center. Tip-off for the UAA contest is set for 12 noon and will be followed by a men's game between the two schools at 2pm.
