Men's Volleyball Cruises to 3-1 Win

Violets Stay Hot on Young Season

The #8-ranked New York University men's volleyball won its uptown battle on the road against Hunter College on Tuesday, January 27, in New York, NY.

After taking the first two sets of the match, the Violets went on to close the contest in the fourth set by a final score of 25-14, 25-16, 22-25, 25-20.

With NYU ahead 11-8 in the opening frame, the Violets went on a 10-1 run to take full control of the set. Though the Hawks fought back with four consecutive points of their own, NYU clinched the stanza with a 25-14 win.

Much like the first set, the two teams went back-and-forth to begin the second frame, as the Violets held a 16-14 edge at just over the halfway point. However, the Violets once again pulled away with a big run, outscoring Hunter 9-2 to close out the set.

NYU looked poised for a sweep in the third frame, ahead 16-11, before the Hawks flipped the scoreboard with a 9-2 run. The Violets tied the score twice, at 20-20 and 21-21, but Hunter managed to get on the board with a 25-22 set win.

The fourth set saw four lead changes and four ties through the first 15 rallies before the Violets took the lead for good. Down 7-6, NYU won four of the next five points and did not trail for the rest of the night. The Hawks later cut the deficit to one, down 15-14, but the Violets gained breathing room with a 6-2 run. A 25-20 set win clinched the match for NYU.

Emerson Evans returned to court after more than a week and posted a team-high 15 kills on .297 hitting along with five serving aces, one block assist, and nine digs. Krish Vasan dished out 28 assists, while Jerry Feng totaled three total blocks and nine kills.

The Violets will next play their first home game of the season in a tilt against Rutgers University Newark on Tuesday, February 3, at the John A. Paulson Center at 6:00pm.
