The #15-ranked New York University wrestling team closed out a two-match day against the #4 ranked The College of New Jersey (TCNJ) Lions on Saturday, January 24th, at the John A. Paulson Center in Manhattan.
The TCNJ Lions emerged victorious by a score of 33-14.
After defeating Stevens earlier in the day on Senior Day, the Violets got off to a strong start, as Alexander Diaz remained undefeated on the season with a decision victory at 125 pounds.
The dual remained competitive through the next several bouts, as the teams battled through the middle portion of the lineup.
The 157-pound bout was closely contested, with Robert Leeds dropping a 9-4 decision.
At 174 pounds, Ty Finn recorded a pin at the 4:55 mark to bring the Violets closer to the Lions in the team score.
Justin Mayes followed with a tech fall at the 6:05 mark to add to the NYU total.
NYU added points in the final bouts, but the Violets ultimately fell to the Lions by a final score of 33-14.
The Violets are back in action on Sunday, February 1, as they battle against New Jersey City University, Shippensburg University, and East Stroudsburg University in East Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania.
