The New York University men's tennis team wrapped up its regular season with a 6–1 victory over Stevens Institute of Technology on Wednesday, April 16, in Bayonne, NJ.
The Violets took two out of three in doubles to claim the opening point and went on to win five of six singles matches.
In doubles, Philip Martin and Boren Zheng earned a 6–4 win at No. 1, while Alex Lee and Zachary Freier sealed the point with a 7–6 win at No. 3.
On the singles side, Zheng battled at No. 1 but ultimately came up short in a tight three-set match. Martin led the charge with a 6–0, 7–5 win at No. 2. Bryan Hui followed with a 6–3, 6–2 victory at No. 4, and Ryan Shayani added a 6–1, 6–4 win at No. 6.
Cooper Kline came from behind for a gritty 4–6, 7–5, [10–8] victory at No. 5.
"It was a strong showing from the men," said Head Coach Horace Choy. "It was our first outdoor match of the season in some very challenging conditions. Phil and Boren continued their solid play at No. 1, and we got a big win from Alex and Zach at No. 3. Singles was pretty straightforward as we controlled play—Bryan and Ryan closed their matches out quickly and Phil won the clincher. Cooper and Jing rounded out a strong effort."
With the regular season concluded, NYU now sets its sights on the University Athletic Association (UAA) Championship, hosted in Altamote Springs, FL, from Friday to Sunday, April 25-27.
