The New York University baseball team closed out its series against Emory University on Saturday, March 29, in Atlanta, GA.
The Violets dominated game one with a 12-3 win, but were defeated 15-9 in game two.
After loading the bases in the second inning of the first game, a
Michael Burton Jr. walk and a
Dakota Barbet groundout brought home the first two runs of the game for NYU.
The Violets scored once more in the top of the fourth, followed by RBI singles by
Nate Pallotta and
CJ Franchini in the top of the fifth, which made it 5-0.
With the bases loaded once again, NYU knocked in three more runs in the top of the sixth to go ahead 8-0.
The Eagles responded with three runs in the bottom half of the inning, but it would be their only runs of the contest.
Capping off the game with four more runs in the top of the ninth, NYU claimed its first University Athletic Association (UAA) win of the year.
Tyler Tedeschi (3-0) tossed two innings in relief and earned the win. He struck out two batters in his appearance.
In the backend of the doubleheader, the Violets got out to a 5-0 lead after the top half of the first inning. Pallotta,
Kosta Mocklis, Franchini, and
Aidan Howladar each registered an RBI in the frame.
Emory quickly erased the deficit, however, posting 11 runs in the bottom of the first.
NYU drew closer in the top of the fourth, as Pallotta plated two runs on a single through the left side, after which a Mocklis RBI double and a Franchini RBI sacrifice fly made it 11-9.
The Eagles grew their lead back up to six in the bottom of the frame, though, scoring four runs themselves.
The game ended in a run rule following two more runs coming home for Emory in the bottom of the seventh.
Pallotta starred for the Violets offensively, hitting 2-for-4 with four RBI and two runs scored. Mocklis combined to bat 4-for-6 with three RBI and two runs scored on the day.
NYU will continued UAA play with a home series against Brandeis University, set to begin on Friday, April 4, at the Staten Island University Hospital Community Park in Staten Island, NY. First pitch is scheduled for 3:00pm.
