The New York University men's basketball team completed a near-perfect regular season with a 94-76 victory over Brandeis University on Saturday, March 1, in Waltham, MA.
The
#2-ranked Violets upped its overall record to 24-1, the second-most victories in one season in program history. Only the 1993-94 Violets had more wins (25).
NYU also capped its University Athletic Association (UAA) Championship season at 13-1, the best mark in team history.
The Violets trailed 12-11 early in the contest, but a 10-0 run put them in the lead for good.
NYU led 40-34 at halftime and increased its lead to as many as 27 points, 87-60, on
Hampton Sanders' layup with 6:14 remaining.
The Judges (14-11, 5-9) scored the next 15 points to creep within 12, but consecutive layups by
Brock Susko and
Tristan How squelched Brandeis' comeback attempt.
Five Violets scored in double figures led by Susko's 27 points. How scored 15 points and added game-highs of 13 rebounds and eight assists.
Zay Freeney also scored 15 points, with both
Emmanuel Onuama and
Chuma Oyigbo chipping in 11.
NYU shot 56.9 percent (37-of-65) from the field and 43.8 percent (14-of-32) from three-point range.
The Violets now await the NCAA Selection Show on Monday at 12:00pm to find out who and where they will be playing in the first round of the Division III Championship Tournament.
