It's 50 in a row for the Violets.
New York University's
top-ranked women's basketball team recorded its 50th-straight win, defeating the University of Chicago 80-58 in a University Athletic Association (UAA) contest on Friday, February 7, at the John A. Paulson Center in Manhattan.
The Violets (19-0, 8-0) actually trailed early in the this one at 3-2, 5-4 and 7-6, marking only the second game all season in which they've been behind.
However, a 14-0 run gave NYU a lead it never relinquished.
"They gave us a good run," said Head Coach
Meg Barber. "But, we've been fortunate to just keep doing what we've been doing."
The Violets led 26-14 after the first quarter and 46-29 at halftime.
NYU's lead grew to a game-high 28 points, 68-40, at the end of the third quarter.
Chicago never got closer than 19 the rest of the way.
Caroline Peper scored a game-high 22 points while adding five assists.
Belle Pellecchia had 14 points, four rebounds, four, assists, and four steals.
Natalie Bruns added 13 points and a game-high six assists.
"Right now 50 wins doesn't mean a whole lot," Barber added. "But, I think eventually it will."
The Violets are back in action on Super Bowl Sunday when they host Washington University in St. Louis in another UAA contest. Tip-off is set for 12:00pm.
