Women's Volleyball Ends Regular Season With a Win

Violets Sweep Ospreys

The New York University women's volleyball team faced off against Stockton University to close out the regular season on Saturday, November 8, in Galloway, NJ.

The Violets defeated the Ospreys in straight sets, 25-19, 25-16, 25-23.

An exciting opening set saw seven ties and five lead changes as both teams fought to separate. At 9-9, Stockton went on an 7-1 run which gave the Ospreys a 16-10 lead. However, a four-point run from the Violets put them right back in the set. NYU tied the set at 19-19, then took the next six points to secure the first-set victory.

NYU kept its momentum from the first set to take a commanding 10-3 lead to open the second set. A seven-point run then gave the Violets a 17-3 lead which they maintained until 19-5, when Stockton began to fight back. A pair of four-point runs from the Ospreys brought the score to 20-13. However, the NYU lead proved to be too much, as the Violets took the second set.

Neither team could lead by more than three points in a thrilling final set. Stockton took its first three-point lead at 16-13, but two consecutive points from NYU brought the score within one. The Ospreys took another three-point lead at 19-16, but a four-point NYU run gave the Violets a 20-19 lead . The battle continued as the score was knotted at 23-23. A kill from Sarah Lattan gave the Violets match point, which was followed by a kill from Chloe Lemons to finish the victory.

Lemons and Coco Barton led the way with eight kills apiece. Kaitlyn Sato notched 11 digs while Ava Launsbach tallied 22 assists.

"I think we did a good job at being confident in each set when it became tight or challenging," said Head Coach Andrew Brown. "Our offense was firing and we hit over .300 which becomes hard to stop."

The Violets are back in action next weekend at the UAA Championship in Waltham, MA, with an opening-round matchup against Emory University on Saturday, November 15, at 1 p.m.
