The New York University men's soccer team scored early and often in its 10-0 route of Baruch College on Sunday, September 29, in Newark, NJ.
The 10 goals are tied for the second-most in a single game in program history, and the most since also scoring 10 against York College on October 23, 2016.
The Violets (4-1-2) went ahead less than three minutes into the contest (2:11) as
Bryce Lexow scored the first of his three goals.
Lexow's second came on a penalty kick at 12:10, and his third followed at 20:17 off an assist from
Colton Jensen.
NYU led 5-0 at halftime, as Jensen (17:55) and
Ahmed Ibrahim (21:19) also recorded goals over the first 45 minutes.
"We had multiple goal scorers, multiple people with assists, and we pitched a shutout, which was our goal after halftime," said Head Coach
Kim Wyant. "Overall, it was just a plus-plus game for us in many areas."
The barrage continued in the second half as
Nathan Bennett (62:28),
Marcelo Freire (70:33),
Rafael Panero-Ren (82:02),
Pedro Bottene (83:08), and Freire again at 89:22 all found the back of the net.
NYU out-shot the Bearcats 22-3 overall, 14-0 on goal. Violet keepers
Jackson McCloskey and
Max Saguier had a quiet afternoon in the NYU net.
"This game certainly will help with our confidence," Wyant added. "But, we have to continue taking care of business moving forward."
The Violets return to action this Wednesday, October 2, when they travel to Yonkers, NY, to face Sarah Lawrence College at 7:00pm.
