Baseball Wins on Senior Day

Violets Defeat Cairn 2-1

New York University's baseball team celebrated Senior Day with a 2-1 win over Cairn University on Wednesday, May 1, at the Staten Island University Hospital Community Park.

The Violets honored graduating players Cam Dunn, Alex VanLandingham, Donald Sivolella, Joe Cetale, Sean Bolin, Andrew Reid, Rob Conklin and Daniel Chun prior to the game.

Cairn's lone run of the day came on a sac fly in the top of the first, but NYU evened the score in the third when VanLandingham hit a sac fly of his own to bring Harrison Blueweiss in.

It became a pitcher's duel from there, as Reid went five full innings while allowing the lone run and striking out seven.

Ansel Balmer tossed two shutout innings for the Violets with three strikeouts, while Aidan Dolinsky went 1.2 innings while allowing no runs and fanning three to get the pitching win.

It was still 1-1 entering the bottom of the eighth, but VanLandingham led off with a single up the middle and advanced to second on a passed ball. He then stole third which drew an errant throw from the Cairn catcher, allowing him to race home for the winning run.

Bolin came in to get the last out in the top of the ninth with runners on first and second, delivering a strikeout to secure the Senior Day triumph.

Blueweiss and Nick Argenziano had two hits apiece, with Argenziano and Dunn notching a double each. Chun went 1-for-1 with a pair of walks while Conklin and Sivolella both recorded a hit on their Senior Day.

The Violets conclude the regular season with a 25-13 record for the third 25-win campaign in program history.
