The New York University men's tennis team completed play at the University Athletic Association (UAA) Championship with a 5-4 loss to Carnegie Mellon University on Saturday, April 27, in Altamonte Springs, FL.
The Violets entered the competition as the #6 seed, while the Tartans were #5 and ranked #27 in the nation.
"The men battled to the end and I give CMU a lot of credit," said Head Coach
Horace Choy. "We had some chances and CMU played really well when it counted. I am proud of the way the guys competed to the end."
NYU got off to a quick start in Saturday's match, winning two of the three doubles matches.
Boren Zheng and
Alexander Lee won 8-5 at #1, while
Jingyuan Chen and
Louis Frowein were victorious 8-6 at #2.
The teams continued to battle through singles, and the match was tied at 4-4 before Carnegie's Akshay Joshi edged Lee at #6 (4-6, 7-6 (8-6), 6-2) to give the Tartans the victory in the match for fifth place.
NYU's singles victories were produced by Zheng at #1 (6-4, 6-2) and Chen at #2 (6-2, 6-2).
The Violets conclude their 2023-24 campaign with a 5-10 record.
