Men's Basketball Set to Host NCAA First and Second Rounds

Violets Welcome Husson, Stockton and Tufts to Manhattan

New York University's men's basketball team was selected as one of the hosts for the first and second rounds of the 2024 NCAA Division III Championship Tournament.

The Violets will take on Husson University in the opening round, also welcoming Stockton University and Tufts University to the John A. Paulson Center in Manhattan.

Stockton and Tufts will play at 4:15pm on Friday, March 1, with NYU vs. Husson following at 6:45pm. The two winners will then play in the second round on Saturday, March 2, at 6:45pm.

"We worked towards this goal and it's awesome to share this moment together because we've been working towards it since the beginning of the year," said graduate student guard Michael Savarino after the team's viewing of the selection show. "This is just one step of the journey, but we're hungry. That's the best emotion, we're so hungry. We've got something to prove after losing in the first round last year and we're trying to make some noise this year."

The Violets were University Athletic Association (UAA) Co-Champions in 2023-24, their first league title in 30 years, after finishing the regular season with a 20-5 record and 10-4 mark in the UAA.

"Incredible," said graduate student guard Spencer Freedman when asked how it feels to host. "Last year we traveled and you see how big of an advantage it is to host. We have this amazing facility and some other people will get to see it now. We're really excited about it."

Last year NYU returned to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2016, falling in the opening round. This year's squad is currently ranked 14th in the nation and is coming off back-to-back victories to conclude the regular season.
