Top-Ranked Women's Basketball Completes Undefeated Regular Season

Violets Go to 25-0 with Win at Brandeis

The undefeated and top-ranked New York University women's basketball team completed its regular season with an 81-54 victory over Brandeis University on Saturday, February 24, in Waltham, MA.

The Violets (25-0, 14-0) will head into the NCAA Division III Championship Tournament next weekend as University Athletic Association (UAA) Champions, having gone undefeated in UAA play for the first time in program history.

NYU scored 1149 points in UAA games this season, breaking the one-season record of 1148 set by Washington University in St. Louis during the 2000-01 campaign.

"It was an historic way for this team to finish our regular season as undefeated UAA champions," said Head Coach Meg Barber. "Monday, we turn the page to hopefully make more history together, but tonight we will enjoy reflecting on all of the amazing accomplishments."

The Violets never trailed in Saturday's contest, taking a 22-8 lead after the first quarter and maintaining that 14-point lead into halftime (40-26).

The NYU advantage grew to 57-37 after the third quarter, and increased to a game-high 29 in the fourth.

Belle Pellecchia lit up the stat sheet for the Violets, finishing with team highs of 20 points, eight rebounds and three steals, and adding a pair of assists.

Natalie Bruns also collected eight rebounds, while scoring 12 points, dishing out three assists, and registering two blocks.

Also scoring in double figures for the Violets were Megan Bauman (17 points, seven rebounds, two assists), and Caroline Peper (16 points, four rebounds, two assists, one block).

"The maturity and togetherness of our team shined through today and we got a lot of contributions from everyone," Barber added.

NYU will find out its first-round opponent in the NCAA Tournament during the 2:30pm Selection Show on Monday .
