The New York University women's basketball team, ranked #1 in the nation by both
D3hoops.com and the
Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA), crossed the East River into Brooklyn on Wednesday and cruised to a 104-40 win over Brooklyn College.
The Violets, now 8-0 and owners of a nation-best 39-game winning streak, had little trouble with the host Bridges (4-4).
The visitors scored the first 12 points of the game and raced out to a 34-5 lead after the first quarter.
By halftime, the lead grew to 59-18.
The third quarter ended at 81-33, and the lead grew to as many as 65 in the fourth.
The Violets' well-rounded offense was led by
Caroline Peper and
Jamie Behar, who each scored 13 points as the Violets shot 63.2 percent (43-for-68) from the field.
Yasmene Clark scored a career-high 12 points, while
Natalie Bruns added 10.
Brooke Batchelor and
Mary Kate Fahey each scored nine.
Caitlin Kenney led the squad with a game-high nine rebounds, while Behar grabbed eight.
Belle Pellecchia led the way with six assists and four steals.
The Violets now take a long break until returning to the court on Sunday, December 29, to face Middlebury College at the John A. Paulson Center in Manhattan. Tip-off is set for 5:000pm.
