Women's Soccer Outlasted in Sweet 16

Violets Fall to #18 Blue Jays

The #18-ranked New York University women's soccer team fell to #18-ranked Johns Hopkins University on Saturday, November 23, in the third round of the NCAA Division III Tournament in Newport News, VA.

The Blue Jays scored twice in the first half before the Violets found the back of the net with under 24 minutes remaining en route to a 2-1 final.

Less than six minutes into the match, Johns Hopkins had seemingly scored its first goal of the match, but it was taken off the board for offside. However, in the 18th minute, the Blue Jays did manage to score to go up 1-0.

Just over five minutes later, a cross into the box by the Blue Jays lead to a goal off of a header to make it 2-0.

In the 67th minute, the Violets registered a header goal of their own, as a Kelli Keady cross was put into the net by Julia Spang to make it a one-goal contest.

With Johns Hopkins continuing to apply the pressure, the Blue Jays were awarded a penalty kick in the 74th minute, but the attempt went wide left to keep the deficit at one. Two minutes later, a Johns Hopkins shot that had a chance to go in was tipped in the air and out of play by Riley Felsher.

On the other end, Izze Ching put a rebounding ball into the back of the net but was deemed offside, taking away the potential equalizer.

NYU ends its season with a 12-3-6 record and having reached its second consecutive Sweet 16.
