The
#4-ranked New York University men's basketball team had its nine-game winning streak snapped with a 94-76 road loss at #5 Case Western Reserve University on Friday, January 12, in Cleveland, OH.
Both teams entered the University Athletic Association (UAA) contest with identical 11-1 records, but the Spartans defended their home court successfully as the Violets suffered their first loss since November 12.
Cinque Stephens' three-pointer gave NYU its biggest lead of the game, 24-19, with 12:01 to play in the first half.
Case answered with a 16-2 run to take the lead for good, extending it to 49-38 at halftime.
Zay Freeney's bucket to open the second half pulled the Violets within nine, but the Spartans scored the next eight points and led by double-digits the rest of the way.
Spencer Freedman led five Violets in double figures with 17 points. Freeney had 15, Stephens scored 12, while
Quinn Clark and
Emmanuel Onuama each had 10.
Onuama also had a team-high six rebounds.
The Violets conclude their weekend road trip when they face Carnegie Mellon University at 12:00pm in Pittsburgh, PA, on Sunday.
