The New York University softball was defeated 1-0 in extra innings by Emory University on Sunday, April 9, at the College of Staten island.
The Violets had beaten the Eagles in the first three games of the four-game University Athletic Association (UAA) series, but came up short in Sunday's finale.
In was a pitcher's dual between NYU's
Marina Egbert and Emory's Isabel Cohen, as neither hurler allowed a run through eight innings. But, the Eagles rallied for the game's lone run in the yop of the ninth, and Cohen retired the Violets 1-2-3 in the bottom of the frame to earn the victory.
"It was a tough loss," said Head Coach
Now-Allah James. "But, we took three of four over the weekend and that was a good result."
Egbert only allowed six hits, struck out four and did not walk a batter. She carried a no-hitter into the sixth inning before the Eagles' Tyler Miller singled with one out.
Cohen only gave up five hits and walked four as the Violets stranded nine base runners in the contest.
Chloe Blanc had one of the hits for NYU. She also walked and stole a base. Egbert,
Margaux Lesser,
Hannah Becker, and
Sophia Leon accounted for the other hits.
The Violets return to the diamond on Friday, April 14, when they face Brandeis University in Waltham, MA. First pitch is set for 3:00pm.
