The New York University women's tennis team faced off against Wellesley College on Sunday, April 16, in Wellesley, MA, coming back from yesterday's loss to win in decisive fashion, 8-1, over the Blues.
The Violets started off strong with three doubles victories. The No. 1 doubles team of
Ida Krause and
Dakota Fordham swept 8-0 while the second flight duo of
Aditi Narayan/
Karina Jensrud and the No. 3 team of
Jimena Menendez/
Anastasiia Balyk saw more competitive matches, but ultimately came out on top as well with 8-5 and 8-7 wins, respectively.
NYU kept up the pressure in the singles round, only dropping one match. The fifth victory to clinch the day came from No. 1 singles as Krause returned from a close first set to sweep the second 6-0 against Wellesley's Annissa Mu.
Jensrud (No. 2, 6-4, 6-3), Menendez (No. 3, 0-6, 7-5, 6-3),
Molly Heber (No. 5, 8-3) and
Kendall Kamerschen (No. 6, 8-0) also claimed singles victories.
"Our ladies bounced back well today," commented Head Coach
Horace Choy. "They found the tennis we've been playing all season. It's now back to work this week to prepare for a good showing at the UAA Championship. Go Violets!"
The victory represented the Violets' regular-season finale as the NYU women's team wrapped its regular season with a 9-1 record. The squad will be back in action at the University Athletic Association (UAA) Championship on Friday-Sunday, April 21-23, in Altamonte Springs, FL.
