New York University's baseball team fell twice to Case Western Reserve University on Friday in a University Athletic Association (UAA) doubleheader at Maimonides Park in Brooklyn, NY.
The Spartans took game one 9-4 and won the nightcap 15-3, dropping NYU's record to 12-13 and 5-8 and the Association.
In game one, the score was tied 1-1 at the end of three innings after
Nate Pallotta's RBI double in the bottom of the frame. But, eight CWRU runs over the next three innings put the visitors back in front.
The Violets rallied with three runs in the bottom of the ninth thanks to a two-run single from
Tyler Offman and a Spartan error, but the deficit proved too much to overcome.
Richard Beggy finished 2-for-3 with a double and a run scored as the lone Violet with multiple hits while
Mason Clark,
Dylan Branca and
Aidan Dolinsky all had scoreless pitching outings in relief.
Case Western Reserve rode this momentum to a six-run top of the first in game two and led 9-2 after four innings with NYU's pair of runs coming via solo homers from Pallotta and
Cam Dunn.
The Spartans added three more scores in both the seventh and ninth while NYU's final run of the night was supplied by an RBI base knock off the bat of
Russell Burton in the bottom of the seventh.
Dolinsky had another scoreless outing in relief in game two and
Ansel Balmer pitched a scoreless inning out of the bullpen as well.
The teams conclude the four-game series with a doubleheader on Sunday, April 16, at Maimonides Park with game one beginning at 10:00 a.m.
