Violets Defeat Wisconsin-Platteville 76-50

New York University's top-ranked women's basketball team earned its 11th-consecutive win to open the season with a 76-50 over the University of Wisconsin-Platteville on Saturday to conclude the UC Santa Cruz Tournament in Santa Cruz, CA.

Natalie Bruns led the way with a game-high 20 points (7-of 13 FG, 1-of-3 3PT, 5-of-6 FT), in addition to five rebounds, five assists, four blocks, and two steals.

Morgan Morrison added 14 points as the other Violet in double figures, while 13 different players scored in the victory. NYU has won all but one of its contests by 15 or more points in 2023-24, and the Violets are 25-1 in their last 26 games dating back to last season.

The first quarter was close throughout and Platteville ended the period within two, 16-14, after Madalyn Reichmann's layup with 18 seconds left. NYU took control in the second, however, out-scoring the Pioneers 16-2 and holding them without a field goal (0-of-15) in the frame.

The Violets entered the break with a 32-16 advantage and kept it going after intermission with Bruns scoring eight and Mary Kate Fahey pouring in all seven of her points in the third as they won the quarter 23-11.

NYU led 55-27 going into the fourth and an even final quarter saw the Violets pick up their second win on the West Coast.

Bruns was named the tournament's Most Outstanding Player, while Morrison was selected to the All-Tournament Team

Belle Pellecchia finished with a game-high 11 rebounds to go with four points, two steals, an assist, and a block. Alexia Mousouroulis and Erica Miller chipped in six points apiece as part of a balanced scoring output.

The Violets shot 46.7 percent from the field and 46.2 percent from distance while forcing 17 turnovers and out-scoring Platteville 40-18 in the paint.

This was the final non-conference tuneup for NYU, completing a perfect record outside of the University Athletic Association (UAA) for the third straight campaign.

Next up is the UAA opener on Saturday, January 6, against Brandeis University at the John A. Paulson Center in Manhattan at 2:00pm.
