The
top-ranked New York University women's basketball team took its show on the road for the second time this season, traveling to New London, CT, on Sunday, December 3 and defeating Connecticut College 87-61.
The Violets did not trail for the entire game and stay a perfect 7-0 on the season.
The opening quarter saw NYU take a quick lead. An
Erica Miller four-point play propelled the Violets on an 8-0 run, making it 15-6 with 3:52 left in the first. With five seconds on the clock,
Mary Kate Fahey knocked down a three to give NYU a 20-13 lead heading into the second.
The Violets kept their foot on the gas pedal in the second quarter, out-scoring the Camels 21-9. After
Caroline Peper hit a three at 2:10, the Violets prevented the hosts from scoring again, ending the first half up 41-22.
Entering the second half, the Violets continued to pressure and, after Peper drained a 15-footer, NYU took its largest lead of the game, 59-28. The Camels kept fighting, however, scoring 17 points in the third, which was their most in any quarter so far. But, the visitors still ended the frame with a 64-39 edge.
The final quarter was similar to the rest and the Violets closed out the game, gaining their second road win in as many tries.
NYU shot 50.8 percent from the floor and went 11-for-28 from three-point range. The team grabbed 32 rebounds, dished out 32 assists, produced 30 points in the paint, and forced 20 turnovers.
Peper scored a season-high 21 points, going 9-for-15, and added three blocks. Fahey had 14 points and made four out of seven threes. Pellechia had a season-high six steals as well as 10 points.
Natalie Bruns had nine points, four assists, and three blocks.
Kelsey DuBois also had a team-high eight rebounds.
The Violets will return to the John A. Paulson Center next, where they will go up against ninth-ranked Tufts University on Saturday, December 9, at 3:00 pm.
