The New York University men's and women's fencing teams have concluded their two-day competition at the Philadelphia Invitational, which was hosted by the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, PA, on Saturday and Sunday, January 21-22.
On Sunday's final day of action, the NYU men won two of their six matches while the women lost all seven.
The men's team defeated NCAA Division I squads from St. John's University (18-9) and Yale University (16-11), but lost to Ohio State University (15-12), Columbia University (14-13), the University of Notre Dame (17-10), and Princeton University (17-10).
All of the women's losses came at the hands of Division I teams: Ohio State (18-9), Yale (23-4), Columbia (21-6), Princeton (22-5), St. John's (16-11), Northwestern University (20-7), and Temple University 19-8).
"Our teams did a great job of enduring the ups and downs of a really tough event," said Head Coach
Ben Bratton. "We're leaving UPenn with our heads held extremely high knowing that we can compete with some of the best in the nation. The outlook for next weekend in Boston is looking very good as we prepare for matchups at Harvard and MIT."
