A pair of NYU men's track and field team members traveled to the west coast for Saturday's Oxy Invitational, hosted by Occidental College, in Los Angeles.
Ryan Tobin and
Aidin Hasan, both freshman distance runners, competed in the 5,000-meter run against a 52-person field.
Tobin shined, eclipsing his personal record in the event as he crossed the finish line in 14:36.27 which ranks fourth in the University Athletic Association (UAA). His 16th-place finish was ahead of multiple Division I runners.
Hasan came in 46th with a time of 15:18.60, gaining valuable experience at a competitive meet.
The rest of the men's and women's track and field teams were slated to compete today at the Tom Farrell Classic, hosted by St. John's University in Queens, but heavy rain led to its cancellation after just a handful of events:
- Kristian Zadlo ran the 1500 for the first time as a Violet, placing fourth with a 5:01.91 finish.
- Owen Mountford was the only men's discus participant to record a throw (34.96m) before the meet was canceled.
- Michelle Uvieghara (30.55m) and Nathalie Shoji (17.21m) competed in women's discus as Shoji recorded a personal best.
Both Violet squads will be back in action on Monday, May 16, at the Swarthmore Last Chance Meet in Chester, PA.
